This solo touches upon all that is Yngwie - the unquestionable godfather of "shredguitar" - swept arpeggios, diminished arpeggios, three-note-per-string runs and the harmonic minor scale. A lot of Yngwie's tone comes from his steady, wide and occasionally very fast vibrato. If you want to sound like Yngwie, getting a good vibrato is just as important as practicing speed.
As opposed to the common belief, Yngwie's three notes per-string-runs (=fast scalar runs) do not only consist of picking, he also has an awesome legato technique (=hammer-ons and pull-offs) which he mixes in with the picking. Building up a good/strong left-hand technique is therefore equally importantin order to get a good and fluid sound. This is also illustarted in the ending run of this lesson.
Theory-wise, this solo is derived from the F# minor scale and F# harmonic minor - as well as F#minor triad arpeggios. |
