There are different ways of achieveing the muted/damped effect in between the notes. The most common one, which I think Yngwie uses, is to damp the string - right after the pick strike, with the right hand thumb.

A method which I use more often, is to lift the left hand finger right after the pick strike. You don't need to lift it high above the strings - you should lift it just enough to kill the note. The reason I prefer this method is because it creates abrupt silence. Now GO KILL YOUR NOTES!!
