Hey Joe is yet another example of how rhythm master Jimi Hendrix dealt with chords, scales and everything in between. The lesson features his patented chord slides (= slide around with chord shapes), as well as his nicely incorporated hammer-on and pull-off scale references. The harmony revolves around the chords C G D A E - which makes it hard to define a key. Instead Jimi would alternate between E major scale and E minor (mostly pentatonic) - this is evidence of Jimi's roots in the blues music. Throughout this lesson guest instructor David Lamain creates interesting varations through the use of hammer-ons and pull-offs, pay close attention to these. Originaly played in standard tuning - here tuned down a half a step. This is the way Hendrix played it live on some occasions.
