Here follows a tasteful pentatonic lick where Claption incorporates the second (E) and the blues note (Ab). He also beginns the lick in an "arpeggiated" way, meaning he follows a Dm barre chord shape.

In this lick Clapton uses the same add-ons (second and blues note). He chooses to begin the the lick with a bend on the minor third (once again taking the note into the "blue" region), which results in a strong effect.
