Eric Clapton Layla unplugged guitar lesson (part 3)
-> Go to part 1 2

Next comes a short but timeless little lick. Make sure all the notes on the tenth fret are played with the index finger.

e|-10----13b-10-|
b|----10--------|
g|--------------|
d|--------------|
a|--------------|
e|--------------|

This next lick has a tricky bend with the index finger. Practice just the bend up and down (over and over again), until it feels comfortable.

e|------15p13-15-15-13b---|
b|--13--------------------|
g|------------------------|
d|------------------------|
a|------------------------|
e|------------------------|

Yet some index-finger-bending . Also notice how Clapton starts the lick by outlining a D minor chord (with E note as a passing second).

e|-------12-13-15--13-15--12-13--10------------|
b|----15----------------------------13-10------|
g|-14-------------------------------------12b--|
d|---------------------------------------------|
a|---------------------------------------------|
e|---------------------------------------------|

In the following lick Clapton elaborates with some double stop drills (hammer-one and pull-offs).

e|------------------------------------------------|
b|-----13------10----------10----10---10--10------|
g|--10----12b-----12-10----10--9-9h10-9---9h10----|
d|----------------------12---------------------12-|
a|------------------------------------------------|
e|------------------------------------------------|

The solo is ended with a chromatic descent. The two notes between parenthesis are not played on the guitar, they are the two notes which Clapton sings (Lay-laa).

e|--------------------|
b|--------------------|
g|-5------------------|
d|---7-6-5------------|
a|---------8-7b-(3-5)-|
e|--------------------|

Good luck!

/Kristofer
