Why anyone can learn the solos at freelicks

1. I do not have any natural talent, I just got my skills through practicing - so you can too.

2. Playing guitar is not like a sport - many great musicians have started at a late age.

3. Talent is something you where taught about in school - it's something the teachers use as an excuse to explain why they never got to be great musicians.

4. If your friend plays better than you, it's because...

      • he has practiced more than you (even though he would never admit it)
      • he has received important advice from a more experienced guitarist
      • he has been introduced to music at an early age

...NOT because he has "guitar genes" in his blood!!

5. I haven't to this day had a guitar student that truly wants to learn - and that hasn't been able to. On the contrary, I have had "horrible" cases who later on have astonished me (some of my students go from not being able strum an F chord to playing the most incredible solos).

6. You don't need to be able to read music at freelicks - just watch/listen to the lick a bunch times and you will eventually understand how it's done. This is the way I learned.

So anyone can play the solos at freelicks. Just remember to not give up - even if some of the licks might feel impossible for your hands.

Important note : When I started practicing seriously, I was lucky to have a great guitar tutor: Kristian Niemann from Therion. He helped me alot, because even though I did all the practicing by myself (obviously!), Kristian made sure I didn't learn anything the wrong way (bad habits are very hard to get rid off).

What am I trying to say? - You can learn almost anything by yourself - but you have to attend a live guitar lesson once in a while. There is no way you can learn a difficult solo with bad habits "programmed" into your playing - this stuff is hard enough anyway! If you don't have the possibility to meet a teacher, I strongly recommend downloading my first dvd, where I explain how to avoid the most common bad habits.

Rock on, and remember - YOU CAN DO IT!!
