Free guitar lesson 2 - Nuno Bettencourt RIP solo (Ending)
-> Go to part 1 2 3
This last part of the RIP solo is funky and Hendrix influenced, it is played in the first pentatonic box. Meaning you can borrow the licks whenever you are improvising in your trusty "blues box". Those of you who had problems with the fast picking in the previous sections, will hopefully find this part easier.
E minor pentatonic:

Pay close attention to following lick's phrasing, as sixteenths and sixteenth-note triplets are being mixed. This kind of alternating in time value can be found throughout the whole RIP solo.

Same comment as above, though this lick has a different ending:

Yet another variation on the same theme. Nuno funks up the end of the lick with the use of "Chicken scratching" (notated as "x x x "), creating a solo-rhythm crossover. This technique is commonly used by Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. When doing this, make sure you hit the strings hard with the pick, play it like you mean it!

Over to the Hendrix rip-off. Make sure you damp the the G note ( fret 10, A-string) with right hand thumb, just after the pick stroke, as this creates the staccato effect. Very nicely incorporated is this funky peace of rock history:
