Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) Sultans of Swing part 1
Go to part 2 3

Time to look at a fantastic country/rock solo by guitar master Mark Knopfler. He mixes chicken picking, blues clichés, lightning fast arpeggios - all performed with his unmistakable tone and feel.

Mark uses his right hand fingers to 100 % instead of a pick. However, a combination of pick and fingers is used in this lesson. In order to simulate Mark's dynamic staccato, you should try to hit the strings very hard with your right hand. Mr Knopfler also bends up to pitch very quickly, so no long "Jimmy Hendrix - style bends".

The chords for this solo are Dm Bb C and Mark relies mainly on the A minor pentatonic and D minor pentatonic scale.
