"The number of the beast" riff is interesting - theoretically it is a major riff - and the major sound is often described as "happy" - still the riff sounds evil.

Either way, this is a cool riff - as well as the ultimate palm muting exercise. Make sure to damp the strings with right hand palm (a few millimeters from the bridge). You must also realise it is equally important to lift the palm when striking the the d-string ir the D5 chord!
